Is it no wonder that no one is truly happy? I often wonder where we got the idea that life was about ‘being happy’? More often than not the expectation of everyone being happy is the one thing making leads us all to be unhappy?

Let’s face it, it’s nothing more than a chemical reaction that ensures the survival of our species. As humans, we are hardwired to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Too much time without the ‘elusive’ stuff can lead a person to suicide. A lot then has to be said about the people within our lives and the role they played in a person’s state of unhappiness. Is it really good enough to accept that they did not know or see the signs?

Parents, family, friends, employers and the list goes on when you consider the people who exist within our worlds, who not only want us to be, but expect us to be happy. Is it no wonder we feel as if the world truly might be against us at times? That is only taking into account the people who are fortunate to be born into a world full of people who actually appreciate their existence. For a lot of us, the struggle is that much harder due to the fact that the ones who are supposed to love us, simply despise our existence for no apparent reason.

So why do we project rather than protect? If this chemical reaction is crucial to the survival of our species then why do we spend so much time trying to live vicariously through our offsprings rather than preparing them for the world as it is? Why are the fundamental years wasted on our own selfish endeavors? Why do we waste this feeling on ourselves who are closer to our expiry date rather than doing the one thing that chemical is designed for? Ensuring the survival of our species? Is it any wonder how the never-ending cycle of unhappiness is born?

I’ve been guilty of saying, “I don’t care what my son does with his life when he grows up as long as he’s happy”. Maybe I should rephrase that to, “I hope my son makes it through this life as unfractured as possible”.

I am a mother of one, artist and blogger from Australia. I write children’s books and want to introduce awareness education for children in all schools. This is my journey from domestic violence and beyond. Where it will end up is anyone's guess. Share in my story....
